Regional LEAP Trainings

(& Train the Trainers)

SUMMARY: Participants enroll in only one or two days of training (over the course of this 3-day event) dependent on whether they are seeking only LEAP® Training/Certification or both this training and Certification as a LEAP® Trainer.

MAIN AIM: A national rollout of the LEAP® Communication and Treatment-Engagement Program.

  1. To create a national network of LEAP® Certified Mental Health & Healthcare Professionals, Family Caregivers, Peer-Specialists, and Criminal Justice Professionals.

  2. To certify and support a national network of LEAP® Trainers.

  3. To raise awareness of Anosognosia: a brain-based symptom of unawareness responsible for the majority of treatment refusals, relapses, treatment dropouts & criminalization of persons with mental illness.


During a LEAP® 3-Day Regional Training:

DAY I: Up to 300 family caregivers and the professionals described above are trained to use LEAP® with their loved one’s and/or clients (and others with serious mental illness).  Successful graduates are certified in LEAP® and receive a certificate of course completion and ongoing support from LEAP Foundation.

DAY II: A group of up to 25 pre-selected participants from DAY I are trained to become LEAP® TRAINERS (Day I course completion is a pre-requisite).  Graduates, successfully completing follow-up supervision, are certified as LEAP® TRAINERS and receive a certificate of course completion and ongoing support from the LEAP Foundation and Dr. Amador.

DAY III: A 2nd group of up to 25 pre-selected participants from DAY I are trained to become LEAP® TRAINERS (Day I course completion is a pre-requisite).  Graduates, successfully completing follow-up supervision, are certified as LEAP® TRAINERS and receive a certificate of course completion and ongoing support from the LEAP Foundation and Dr. Amador.
